Image of Tom Welling as Clark Kent, doing the "shirt rip" to reveal the Superman suit. It's as close as we ever got to him actually being Superman, and after ten years and 218 episodes; IT'S A PISS POOR ANTICLIMACTIC!!
Sure"fan entitlement" can be a bad thing, but when you've invested ten years with the promise of the most delicious steak you've ever eaten, and they plop down a bologna sandwich; you're perfectly justified in going "WTF was that?!"

Image of Tom Welling as Clark Kent in Smallville Season 10, wearing a red leather jacket embossed with the Superman S over a blue shirt and blue jeans.
In hindsight, it and its immediate predecessor look are compromises. You've got an actor in his 30s, nominally playing a character ten years younger, and they can't keep him nebulously young forever. So let's say "this is a step on the journey".

Yes, I have one of those jackets.

I'm seeing the movie this afternoon, but this #SupermanWeek I've revisited a fair bit of media (and avoided others!) Smallville kinda inhabits this weird middle range. A small, very nerdy thread

For Superman Week @thecomicon.bsky.social, I ranked all the Superman #1 covers that *aren't* Superman #1.

It...will all make sense once you read it.

Four, count 'em, FOUR! Different Treasury Edition books featuring Superman. Honestly "Superman Salutes the Bicentennial" only features Superman as a framing device, but that cover is gold!

I honestly couldn't decide this very special #TopShelfFriday

Promotional image for the Adventures of Superboy (ca. 1991-92) with Gerard Christopher as the titular hero.

During it's four-year run, the series arguably went through three distinct eras: the first season was a relatively straightforward (though cheap) adventure show, anchored by John Newton's very grounded Clark/Superboy. The second season was a campy, comedic adventure show, with Christopher's over the top "nerdy" Clark. And the final two seasons featured Christopher toning down his performance and the setting changing to the hero having a government internship. It was (comparatively speaking) more adult than the the preceding seasons.

Promotional image for the final season of Smallville featuring Tom Welling as Clark Kent, but casting the shadow of Superman.
During it's ten-year run, the series went from "Smallville" about a young Clark Kent growing up on the farm with the Kent's, to "Metropolis" about a still young (Welling was 34 when the series ended) Clark living in Metropolis, working at the Daily Planet, and being Superman in all but name.

Image of George Reeves as Superman. Like its thirty years later successor, Adventures of Superman (there is no "the") went through three iterations:
The First Season: B&W, each episode is more of a mini B-movie, with HEAVY film noir influences.
The Second Season: B&W, more "family adventure" the edge from the first season has been softened, but there are stakes.
Seasons 3-6: color, campy, kids show. And I love it!!

You know when a show is on long enough that it either gets retooled or evolves enough to reasonably be considered different shows under the same umbrella? It arguably happened to #Superman across three series!

Eyyyy! It’s #Supermanweek! So I decided to join the celebration and draw #StudioMir ‘s #Superman from #MyAdventureswithSuperman! Though I did make one small adjustment to their design, lol. Love that show, by the way! ^^

Much more successful, about thirty years later, Superboy made it to regular series (100 episodes across four seasons). John Newton was the better Clark/Superboy (I know what I said!), Gerard Christopher had the better show built around him (mostly).

It's not a terrible pilot; I think the script needs a little polish and the special effects are either "stand ins" for showing the network suits to be replaced, or they just assumed kids wouldn't care. But the cast seemed game and likeable.
