This is an old project based on Iman that was originally created in Sketchbook Pro for Android on a Google Nexus 7. Yeah, this is definitely old. I was looking at past projects when I came across this and decided to work on it a bit, using Rebelle, clean it up in some areas I wasn't thrilled with and change the color palette. Just when I thought I was done, I thought, what if this was a cover to a gothic horror book? So I put some text and a design element together in Affinity Designer. A few cool versions came out of it, this being one of them, the other being a more extreme version. I purposefully made her skin darker to get more contrast with her eyes. I didn't want them to glow like the ravens but I wanted them to have some punch. I also made the white of her eyes a dark blue for the same reasons, contrast purposes. The Queen of the Ravens is an ominous character in my imagination so that inspired a lot of the changes. I'll probably play with it some more in future as it was a fun exercise.
This is a more experimental version of the previous illustration. I changed the palette, changed the properties of the canvas and set more white for contrast with her skin instead of her eyes. I like the yellow on the ravens and the outline of the design element too. Of all the versions I tooled around with this was really interesting but not my favorite. The previous version spoke to me more. As mentioned, I'm done with this for today, but will revisit some time in future.

This was fun to do. The Horizon was created during a time when the focus was specifically on better learning oil brushes, tube paints and the palette knife in ArtRage. One of the aspects that really impresses me with ArtRage is that the feel of working with oils within it. It feels very similar to working with real oils in some aspects. The end result is one thing, but how you achieve that end result is just as important if not more so (which is also a key reason why AI art is total bullshit when the algorithm creates the piece, not the user but I digress). True to its real life counterpart, oils can be frustrating to work with in ArtRage because they won't react the way intended if not approached correctly but when approached correctly the potential is through the roof.

This is an experiment in color rendering a portrait drawing. The curiosity was to see how digitally painting a cross hatched piece would work if the clarity of the lines were maintained on a textured canvas. This may be revisited in future to try a different rendering process.
Original drawing created in Artrage, requested by a friend on G+. Remember that platform? The Google graveyard is real, it's a shame too because G+ had some cool features that still aren't available on any other social media platform even today. But I digress. Cross hatching and facet drawing on textured canvas were used to create this.
