I was in an airport restroom when a man knocked and said "dad with 4 year old coming in". He sounded mortified. He kept his back to everyone, stared at the ceiling like it personally offended him, and speed-walked his daughter to a stall. A woman whispered "unbelievable". What's unbelievable is expecting a preschooler to brave the men's restroom alone in a crowded airport. He did the respectful thing. He warned us, kept it brief, and focussed on his child. Sometimes the safest choice isn't the most traditional one.
What's unbelievable is that woman sticking so much to gendered toilets that she would separate a four-year-old from her dad
