The hei toki is chisel shaped and bound with black cord. Hei means to "tie around neck" (necklace) and Toki means "adze" (or chisel as we would know it now)
My beloved just gifted me a hei toki
It is made from red jasper he found in the Motueka river near Tapawera
He shaped it himself, & while there is a wee bit more polishing to complete, I wear it with pride
