Thansk James, I'm not sure many have mentioned this, but Europe ensures funding to lift up areas that are dong badly. That is now missing for the UK and I'm not sure if and how it's being properly replaced.
But if used well with nat. gov. support, the effects are clear

It took us a long time to realise the value in our diversity, adn we still have some way to go. But Europe is consciously helping in this regard, making people proud of their own countries' diversity, and proving legal and financial backing for these efforts.
