Finished crime series #TheBreakthrough on Netflix. Always fascinates me how "based on true" crime stories differ from other purely fictional crime series. In The Breakthrough, it took YEARS (not a few weeks) to solve the case. The lead detective's child wasn't targeted by the killer. +

#TheBreakthrough is a well done Swedish #TrueCrime miniseries on #Netflix, based on a book by the same name. I especially liked its covering the crime, the human impact, and the then-developing discipline of #ForensicGenealogy. P.S. It's a very calm, low key production.

Finished the 4-part “Scandi Noir” series on #Netflix #TheBreakthrough. Based on a true story, I enjoyed the focus on the impact of the crime over time on the various people in the wake of the murders. It is slow (by US standards) and dark but I especially enjoyed the character work by Peter Eggers.

Two men; one a detective, the other a genealogist, are closely sitting together and looking through records in an archive. They are wearing white gloves as they examine old parish records. The lighting is dimly lit, giving a shadowy effect and mood.
#TheBreakthrough is probably the most realistic depiction of genealogy I have seen. The amount of time, energy, and resources needed are often unestimated by those who don't have the experience.
