‘Dick came back with a half pint of Badger ale. The other girl had gone.
“Oh, a half. Thank you for my half pint, Dick,” said Lyra. “If I’d known you were short of money, I’d have asked for a glass of water.”’

After picking up The Rose Field by Philip Pullman today, I've decided it's time for a read of the whole of #TheBookOfDust which should keep me busy for a while.

I just finished the Secret Commonwealth by Phillip Pullman and I am now impatiently waiting for book three of the Book of Dust trilogy! I have some problems with it, BUT I absolutely loved the reading experience. 8/10

5 star review on Goodreads

Absolutely wonderful book. I know the third in the Book of Dust trilogy is due in 2025 so I borrowed the audiobook on Borrowbox to 'revise' after I read this a few years back.
SUPERBLY read by Michael Sheen. It's like he took time over every single word contemplating how to say it!

Can't wait for the next in this instalment. I'm sure l'll read it in hardback as soon as it's published, having already preordered. I hope when the audiobook comes out it is read by Michael Sheen again because I'll certainly revisit that one too!

Cover for the first Albanian edition of P. Pullman's The Secret Commonwealth, released in 2023 by Botimet Dudaj. It reproduces Chris Wormell's cover from the original UK edition: a steaming train heading to mountains over a high bridge and a pine forest in a yellow/red/purple sunset. Someone appears in the frame of one of its windows. The book's title (in white) and trilogy's title (in orange) appear in the upper half of the cover along with the author's name.

🇦🇱We just found about a 32nd international edition of Philip Pullman's #TheSecretCommonwealth, a translation by Elona Mistrovica released in 2023 in Albania by the publishing house Botimet Dudaj.

Page header: "roads to Central Asia" printed over a background extracted from the Chris Wormell's cover for Philip Pullman's THE SECRET COMMONWEALTH (2019): a steaming train heading towards mountains in the sunset light. Through one of the lit windows of the train, a silhouette is visible (probably Lyra).

Philip Pullman's #TheSecretCommonwealth takes us far away from Oxford. With Lyra heading to Central Asia and visiting (or hearing about) many places on her quest, we felt a bit lost and tried to identify these places in our own world🔎🗺️:

Reading #TheSecretCommonwealth and can’t believe Lyra refers to Pan as a rodent so often... does she actually not know he’s a mustelid? @PhilipPullman

My excitement at seeing #TheSecretCommonwealth trending abates on realising it's unrelated to Robert Kirk & his fairies. Maybe a future topic for a podcast by @DrFrancisYoung? My 1933 edition (below) is a romantic & inaccurate version of Kirk's life and work #folklorethursday
