This was a highlight of #cDrama #TheTaleOfRose for me. Even though it was her tale, the story of the 2nd leads (her brother and her boss/friend) was given enough time and space to be a gratifyingly complete romantic arc
It's a remake of a #twDrama (which I haven't seen et), but she also wrote #TheTaleOfRose and this one shares the same straight -speaking female characters who have zero-tolerance for patriarchal BS. At least so far.
The intelligence & realism of the dialog in #cDrama #SunshineByMySide had me check the screenwriter. NOT surprised to find she did #TheTaleOfRose Then looked at another of hers & thought the FL actor's name Leah Dou was familiar. She would NOT be pleased I thought "isn't she Faye Wong's daughter"?😱
Yes - dramas in which miscommunication is followed by real attempts at communication
You could also add #MeetYourself (with the same actors from #WillLoveinSpring & #TheTaleofRose), where open conversation is a refreshing highlight of the whole drama
The first three I thought of were #kDrama #MyLiberationNotes #CDrama #WillLoveInSpring and #jDrama #OkaeriMone in #cDrama #TheTaleOfRose the growth of the second pair was built around their communication. Otoh, as much as I loved #jDrama #CalmSea it was built on stubborn non-communication 🙄
I wonder too if the historical setting gives more cover, like the "feng shui" for ghosts thing mentioned? One thing's for sure, I'm even more impressed now by any contemporary #cDrama that shines, like #WillLoveInSpring and #TheTaleOfRose
Btw, aside from historical dramas, there are plenty of female-centric modern cdramas being made - such as the recent #Reborn, or #SheandHerGirls, or #MeetYourself or #TheTaleofRose or #WillLoveinSpring etc
Another plug for #cDrama #TheTaleOfRose - my MDL review omitted one important detail: That one of the supporting female characters was presented very positively as coming to the conclusion that she really did need a man the way a fish needs a bicycle👍
I’ve watched part of #TheTaleOfRose and really enjoyed her refreshingly authentic and self-centred approach to life. (Side note: I was amazed when I realised it’s the same FL actress as in #ADreamOfSplendour. I truly didn’t recognise her. Excellent acting and role physicality!)
Have you seen #cDrama #TheTaleOfRose ? The FL in that very much lived life on her terms. I didn't like her, but that was kind of the point - she came to like herself. The 2FL (her boss) and "3FL" (her brother's '1st love') were both truly independent women too
For a seriously cool STEM female character, try #TheTaleOfRose - the FL's brother's 'first love' - they don't end up together, but she's a very well-drawn character who ends up making choices in her life that I was surprised to see in a #cDrama
fwiw, #TheTaleofRose has one of the most complete, grounded and grown-up romance arcs I've ever seen - between the second couple. Two 30-40ish adults, encompassing recovery from sexual abuse and exploitative parents. I watched it twice, the second time just for them. Melodrama AND a happy ending
