The three arrows is an anti-fascist, anti-authoritarian, pro-democracy symbol originally used by the Iron Front, a leftist political coalition active in weimar germany prior to world war ii. the triple arrows were designed so as to block out a swastika, and to represent resistance to the three main anti-democratic political movements in germany at the time: the fascist nazi party, the stalinist communist party, and the monarchist conservative party. in the decades since world war ii, the three arrows have been adopted by a variety of left-wing and anti-authoritarian movements, from anarchist punks to labor unionists. we of the American iron front are proud to carry on this legacy of resistance today.

the three arrows began as the symbol of the iron front, and its parent organization, the german social democratic party. the iron front were among the largest political action groups active at the time, clashing with the german police, the nazi brownshirts, and the stalinist kpd (communist party). post-wwii, the three arrows were adopted by various groups in europe and north America, from moderate socialist parties to anti-fascist punk rockers. in germany, the uk, and usa, the iron front symbol became popular among anti-racist skinheads, or s.h.a.r.p. (“skinheads against racial prejudice”)
