November on Maulin #wicklowmountains #thursdaywalk
A different #ThursdayWalk this week. Still rivers & trees themed. I am blessed living this close to such beautiful countryside.
A very autumnal #ThursdayWalk today. The ferns already turning orange & the Cuckoo Pint now with their (mid autumn) bright red berries. A yellow unidentified woodland plant & the beautiful willow. It's fascinating how the countryside on this walk changes so quickly.
Maybe I should rename my #ThursdayWalk to #WeeklyWalk? I chose Wednesday because it had a low UV & cloud cover which kept the humidity level bearable. Lovely breezes along the canal. Lots of small fish, solitary swans & sloe berries on blackthorn bushes.
As we slip towards Autumn, the flowers encountered on my #ThursdayWalk constantly change. Purple Loosestrife, Yellow Toadflax, Scarlet Pimpernel(?) & Hawthorn (berries). The walks may stay the same but the flora certainly doesn't!
Today's #ThursdayWalk was all about trees. I'm blessed to have this countryside right on my doorstep. I try to get out for a 16+km walk once a week. A most welcome day without social media or the internet. I strongly recommend it if you have the time.
Wet on today's #ThursdayWalk but a great day out nevertheless. Bullrushes by the canal. An ant nest in the woods. Ducks on the weir. The wheat has been harvested leaving lines of stubble disappearing into the distance. Batteries recharged!
My #ThursdayWalk took place on Tuesday because it was a cooler day. Brilliant walk. Saw 2 muntjac deer (separately), common red soldier beetles, cinnabar moth caterpillars, & red admiral & peacock butterflies. The scenery was fab too!
Way too hot to do my #ThursdayWalk actually on Thursday so I did it today. Highlights are the Common Mallow (Malva sylvestris), sheep sheltering under a tree & me trying to do likewise!
I did my #ThursdayWalk today, as yesterday it was 30°C with a UV index of 8. Still hot today though. Saw some tufted vetch (vicia cracca), Borage, horses & a huge ants nest beside the path in the woods. Well worth the 16km walk.
A very hot #ThursdayWalk. More swans & cygnets, foxgloves (Digitalis purpurea) & some Jacob Sheep. Plenty of shade in the wooded parts thankfully.
I did my #ThursdayWalk yesterday because it was the best day weather-wise. It's raining today. Great for the allotment though. Saw a Brown Hawker Dragonfly & plenty of Swans & signets. Lots of different flowers as the seasons unfold. Anyone know what the white flowers are?
Interesting #ThursdayWalk today. Mostly by the canal. Saw swans & signets, a cormorant, muntjac deer, loads of dragon flies & heard a cuckoo & a woodpecker. Very warm but amply fortified with flasks of coffee, homemade rock cakes & cheese & marmite sandwiches!
What a difference 6 weeks made on my #ThursdayWalk. Gone are all the flowers, replaced by tall grass or ferns. Lots of tall corn & rape in the fields to push through. Same walk, totally different experience.
The highlight of my #ThursdayWalk today were hundreds, if not thousands, of Spindle Ermine caterpillars (Yponomeuta cagnagella) feeding on Spindle trees (Euonymus europaeus?). Here's some 📷s I took of them today.
A few more photos from my #ThursdayWalk yesterday. I am truly blessed to live surrounded by such beautiful countryside.
Great to get out for my #ThursdayWalk again. Approx 16km. Highlights were seeing goslings & a pheasant. Loads of red champions, red horse chestnuts, & mouse-ear chickweed about. 📷s by me. A glorious day to be outside walking in the countryside.
My 10 mile #ThursdayWalk was almost exactly the same as last week's but totally different because different flowers are coming to the fore. This week it's the beautiful bluebells & fields of rape. Oh and I saw a tree hugging another tree almost saying "Please don't leave me!". 😊
Here's some conventional photos from my #ThursdayWalk today. Beautiful weather. Not too hot or windy. An absolute pleasure to be out walking on a day like this.
I planted my seed potatoes on the allotment 12 days ago. Here are some a local farmer planted yesterday which I encountered today on my #ThursdayWalk. Very impressive!
I showed the flora & fauna of yesterday's #ThursdayWalk. Here's some photos of the scenery I encountered.
Lots of colour on my #ThursdayWalk this week. Plenty of wood anemone (Anemonoides hemorosa), Common Yellow Gorse (Ulex), Hawthorn (Crataegus) & surprisingly some Oregon Grape Holly (Mahonia aquifolium). [All my own photos].
Sunshine, mist, rain, thunder, strong wind and vicious hailstones on Tibradden today #thursdaywalk #irishtrails
