![ao3 summary of a fanfic from tokyo babylon/X 1999. the excrept reads: Seishirou has never thought about the meaning of his life. He exists for his duty, and nothing else. Even his name, Sakurazuka, is tied to his occupation, Sakurazukamori. A Sakurazukamori is created and bred to kill. He is fated to die, fated to be replaced, fated to be forgotten. From the moment Seishirou was conceived in his mother’s womb, his soul was already fated to be consumed, buried together with his victims, underneath the very cherry blossoms that give him power.
It doesn’t bother him, this cumbersome fate, and he’s never questioned it. It seems only right and fitting that a Sakurazukamori disappears back to the barrow, just as his mother and all his predecessors did. As for his soul, Seishirou isn’t attached to it either— he simply exists. He thinks of himself as a breathing body, experiencing a life he doesn’t have a choice in, and is indifferent to the rest.
