NOTES Story wise I liked the surprising twist at the end. Unfortunately the main characters stayed a bit distant but I'm not sure was it due to the writing or the narration or a combination of both. World building also felt lacking. There were a lot side characters and a lot of things happening but it was more like a chore list than a story at times. However the ending was rather good. Narration wasn't all that enjoyable to me. A bit monotone and often difficult to differentiate the characters let alone the mood from one another.

Mostly, though, I enjoy his company. He's charming, which is good, but he misses a couple of indicators that trouble is in their midst. He really is pretty trusting for someone in his line of work. I'm just saying.... 🤷♀️ -- Book quote 'I'm back to my murderous self. Even if it's just for a fleeting moment. I really do need to shoot shit more often. Best. Damn. Therapy. Ever.' -- Dante Villani Within a chapter or two, the words I used to describe Chellla from 'Savage Beast' are screaming at me about Anya - fierce but naïve. As much as I love her fierceness, the naivety comes across as a disappointment. Another person who has spent their life in the Mafia without much of a spidey sense? That bothers me. It is a minor detractor as I like how the bulk of this plays out. The sizzle between Anya and Dante is strong from the beginning and carries throughout the book. The fact that Dante's friends and family pop up constantly is another thing I like. They are an integral part of everything. Well, almost everything. 😉 Even though characters and storylines from previous books make appearances, I don't believe prior reading is necessary. There are enough details to provide a pretty good picture of the relevant parts. As is often the case, prior reading is likely to enhance the experience. Your call. I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators are Tor Thom and Sarah Puckett. I really like these two, and the accents accentuate that. 🎧💛🎧 Story: 4.5 stars Narration: 4 stars Listening Speed: 1.8x

(Book review) >Family Blinders< I can easily sum up Marchella "Chella" Amante. Fierce and naïve. She's fiercely protective of those she cares about, but her blinders, especially when it comes to her brother, are undoubtedly a hindrance. There are times that I also feel her naivety is a bit much. Then there is Roman Villani. There are times when I have similar thoughts about him. In his case, him trying to shed his enforcer mentality has him getting caught up in his own makings. I do like him despite his faults. -- Book quote 'The vibrations ripple through me like I’m a body of water, and he’s a smooth stone skipping over the surface.' -- Marchella Amante Although I definitely liked this book, there are some unnecessary repetitions and timeline discrepancies. Ignoring them is easy enough, but it still strikes a nerve. I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators, Tor Thom and Sarah Puckett, are really good. With different accents, it would've been really awesome if this was in duet. I still enjoyed their efforts. Story: 4 stars Narration: 4 stars Listening Speed: 1.8x

(Book review, 2/2) There are several fantastic supporting characters. Lamé and the Perkins are amongst my faves! They bring plenty of laughter to the mix. I rarely comment on covers, even if they do attract or detract me, but this one is a keeper. It fits the energy of the book, especially Grace and Liev. I read and listened to the audio book. The narrators are Tor Thom and Chloe Ryan. I like both narrators, I do, but duet is best for them. Either acting out (or however you refer to it for audio) their non-principle MC wasn't always consistent with the vibe provided by the other narrator. It wasn't horrible, but it was noticeable. Also, the pronunciation of Lamé was inconsistent. I think it should be lah-MAY (or luh-MAY), as in gold lamé. Story: 4 stars Narration: 3.5 stars Listening Speed: 1.75x H = 33; h = 27
