My biggest takeaway from this course is that there are many verbal and nonverbal ways to communicate with one another, and communication methods around the world are influenced by cultural and individual beliefs. #UTcommtheory

Family communication, structure theory was most interesting to me. I enjoyed reading about how other families communicate during times when technology is so involved in our day-to-day lives. #UTcommtheory

I, too, found this theory interesting, especially in today's society, where technology is so involved in our lives as individuals and as families. #UTcommtheory

Kaitlyn, I feel you. That was a good take away from the class honestly. #UTcommTheory

My biggest take away from this course is to be cognizant of my time and intentional in the way I communicate. #UTcommTheory

Lmao, I liked you example of that. I was torn between the social judgement theory and cognitive dissonance, but I chose social judgement theory. #UTcommTheory

I think that the most memorable theory is the Social Judgement theory. I liked this one because I resonate with it. I know it's just a theory, but it's a good one. People believe what they want to believe, and that's the theory. #UTcommTheory

My biggest takeaway from this semester was that there is no wrong way to communicate and all forms of communication hold a message to be delivered and decoded. Also, everyone will interpret messages differently based on medium, relationship, etc. #UTcommtheory

I like this. I agree communication isn't just how we say and do things but its how the messaged is received as well. Its more than just talking to somebody. #UTCommTheory

I agree it is much easier to understand yourself when you break down the reasons and science behind your reactions. Taking this class helped me to understand and identify more correctly the things I had already felt or known about. #UTcommtheory

I said something along similar lines. Everything has meaning behind it, and being careful about what message you're sending is crucial. #UTcommtheory

Everybody wants to be right! It takes a very humble person to just say nope, I'm wrong without the slightest of fight. #UTcommtheory

My biggest takeaway from the course is too careful and calculated with everything that comes out of your mouth. There are a million ways words can be received and then a million outcomes that may arise from your words. #UTcommtheory

Agenda Setting Theory is my favorite theory because I believe it may have more of an impact on what we think about, and how we think about it, than we may want to believe. #UTcommtheory

I also loved learning about this theory. The mental gymnastics we sometimes go through to confirm our thoughts/biases is so real! #UTcommtheory

I completely agree with this! It's amazing how many levels there are to our communication, and once you start to see them, everything becomes much clearer. #UTcommtheory

I agree! The Family Communication Patterns Theory forces you to consider your childhood and the reasons for your family's communication style. #UTcommtheory

I agree! The multitude of theories we learned about shows just how versatile we are in the way we think and process our thoughts. I think it’s incredible how different our communication styles are! #UTcommtheory

What I’ll take away most from this class is how communication is unique to each person. Communication shapes how we think, connect, and understand others. I see this in my work with non-verbal and pre-verbal kids, noticing how gestures, expressions, and actions carry meaning. #UTcommtheory

Totally agree! I also found it kind of hilarious and think about it often! :) #UTcommtheory

#UTcommtheory The most memorable theory was the family communication/structure theory. It was extremely enlightening for me to learn about the different ways that each family communicates and how it effects each member in the long run.

Cognitive Dissonance was definitely one of my top favorites as well. I had a revelation for sure learning about it because as you said, it explains why we justify things we know are wrong. #UTcommtheory

My biggest takeaway was how much easier it is to understand your own thought processes when you know you are not alone, and that there are actual scientific reasons behind certain thought processes. I enjoy knowing that I will take knowledge from this course with me daily! #UTcommtheory

Relational Dialectics Theory was my favorite theory we learned in class. I felt it helped me asses my actions on a daily basis and break down different thought processes that I could never call out by name prior to learning this topic! #UTcommtheory

My favorite theory has to be Cognitive Dissonance. It basically explains why we bend over backwards to make our choices “make sense” 😂 I see it in myself and everyone around me. It’s super real and kind of hilarious. Example: "girl math" #UTcommtheory

My biggest takeaway is that we communicate way more intentionally than we think. Even when it's through silence, emojis, and timing. Everything sends a message. #UTcommtheory

I agree, this course has showed how context-based communication is. The theories we learned helped me understand why people interact the way they do. #UTcommtheory

My biggest takeaway is realizing how communication theories explain everyday interactions. Uncertainty Reduction and Social Penetration had helped me understand how people form relationships and communicate clearly. #UTcommtheory

Communication evolving is indeed the most interesting thisng about it. It's one of the few things within human behavior that never goes "out of style" as a whole. That in itself is fascinating. #UTcommtheory
