OpenAI's newest report, How People Use ChatGPT (Sept 2025), is a sprawling 63-page look at over a year's worth of message-level data from 700 million weekly active users. No speculation. No guesswork. Just anonymized, and privacy-scrubbed message samples from May 2024 to June 2025. The results tell us something bigger than platform trends. They reveal how people are thinking, experimenting, and trying to solve for the pressures of modern life...with and through generative Al.

• The early gender skew (80% masculine-coded names) has reversed. By June 2025, ChatGPT users were slightly more likely to have feminine-coded names. • Nearly half of all usage comes from users under 26, suggesting Gen Z is building habits that will shape the next generation of Al practices. • Usage is growing faster in low- and middle-income countries than in wealthier ones, which honestly surprised me, given that a full third of the world doesn't have reliable internet.
