There seems to be a great deal of illogical complaints regarding #uutils . It is a project rewriting #gnu core utils in #rust. This is being done for the following reasons.

- License
- Unified cross-platform functionality / behaviour
- Safety
- Test coverage

Оказывается, если в проде использовать ещё не готовый софт, то что-то может сломаться.

В Ubuntu 25.10 системные GNU coreutils заменили растовой реализацией uutils.

И заодно сломали автоматические обновления: в утилите `date` не был реализован флаг `-r` для чтения времени модификации файла, она […]

This comes after the last release, which was v0.0.30. This version is now on GitHub, which you can check out below. Ubuntu 25.10 plans to swap GNU coreutils for Rust : It's easier to replace bits of userland than the kernel

I'm a pretty happy user of @kubuntu.org.web.brid.gy on my laptop. That won't change if they switch to the #uutils suite. Is there risk in re-coding everything in Rust? Yup. But sometimes a fresh start is what makes the most sense and moving to a memory safe language has many benefits. #linux #rust

really wish #uutils was under a copyleft license. It’s cool but using it just makes it easier for mega corps to lock down things even more. Yah #rust / #rustlang is faster and more secure, but #GPL is better for society.

I'm happy about the Rust re-implementations, switching from GPL-licensed software to MIT/X11 licensed options is a concern. Unlike the GPL, the MIT/X11 license offers no protection against patent lawsuits and doesn't pull companies to share their modifications publicly. #uutils
