The primary benefit of a compare UI that lets a player see their currently equipped item vs a potential new item is that players don't have to keep what each item does in memory. They can see it right there.
Highlighting differences in the UI is a nice bonus, but not critical.

This is a page on a website to find out which bins are being collected this week. Unfortunately the information is too wide for the screen, so there's a horizontal scrollbar and you can just see the very left edge of the text, but the rest is off the right side of the screen. Scrolling to get it on screen just takes you to next week.
I can tell which bin it is this week because I can see the word grey, but it would be nice to see the rest of the text too. #ux
