Tell Me - Sadiq Ali / The Place, London – Salterton Arts Review A review of Tell Me by Sadiq Ali Company at MimeLondon, a circus theatre work using Chinese pole, dance and theatre to explore an HIV diagnosis.

I had a great start to MimeLondon 2026 last night with Tell Me by Sadiq Ali Company. Great visual storytelling and a very compelling subject.

Happy days! I had a smashing group for the 'From Sticks to Table Top - puppetry training for actors' workshop on Saturday. They were playful, engaged, thoughtful and fun to be with - all this and puppetses, what's not to like?!

Review: The Makropulos Affair – Scottish Opera – Edinburgh ★★★ The problem with Janáček’s The Makropulos Affair lies in what it is: a play set to music, with few concessions made to the genre into which Karel Čapek’s text has been translated. The result is 2 hours of - admittedly rather chic - recitative, without the least hint of a complete melody, never mind an aria. It’s not unpleasant, but musically it simply doesn’t go anywhere.

"...musically it simply doesn’t go anywhere." - Olivia Fuchs directs Orla Boylan to a bravura turn, but Janáček’s operatic fable fails to impress.
