Vulko is the Atlantean that tends to have Aquaman’s ear the most. He is loyal to him for different reasons depending on the era, but my favourite is that he was a political prisoner who helped Aquaman find out about his past when he was jailed after coming to Atlantis to do exactly that. Aquaman leads a revolt, convincing Vulko that he is their true leader, and chooses to keep the prison uniform as a reminder. Vulko begs him to stay but is placed on the throne in his stead, against Vulko’s will. He may be Aquaman’s greatest supporter, but his greatest loyalty is to Atlantis.

An unruly giant seahorse Tempest (kind of) domesticates. While it has a soft spot for him it will send the poor guy flying if he annoys him, or just because he thinks it’s funny.

King Shark has been all over the place, but I included him in my Aquaman character list because he’s also a demigod and both he and his father clash with Aquaman as fellow rulers and deities.
I based his look on his early Superboy appearances and purposely made him more threatening looking than Karshon.

I believe the Abyssal Dark is the key to bringing all of Aquaman’s lore into 1 narrative. An ancient demon trapped in the depths of the ocean bellow Atlantis since its origin. A mystic war was fought to keep it sealed. While it was awoken by the Silent School, I believe it’s effect is seen in the mutations found in and around Atlantis.

We see through Corum Rath that it mutates those it endows into combinations of marine life and their original form, and that they gain the same telepathic abilities as Aquaman. This fits so many of the creatures I’ve run into during this project, including Aquaman. The Atlanteans were mutated when Kordax dad messed with dark magic (It is also the “source of all Atlantean magic”), including Kordax who has the physical and superpowers. The royal family is cursed to slowly go insane after taking the throne and their early delving into these kinds of magic is blamed. Everything from the Fire Trolls, the Trench, giant sea life, Slyzzath, to Bugala could be explained by its influence seeping into the darkest pits of the ocean floor. The deeper you go the more mutated you get.

It hates the royal family (specifically Atlan) for imprisoning it so long ago and uses its magical influence to plague them with mutations and insanity from its dark slumber. Its evil taking hold of Atlantis through its use of magic and living on through bloodlines.
