A close-up portrait of a swan’s head and neck, with fine feather detail and water droplets visible on its white plumage against a smooth, grey water background. The swan’s orange beak and black facial markings stand out sharply, giving the image a calm but striking, almost sculptural feel. Looks a bit peckish and disappointed.

I'm detemined to persuade @richardlatto.bsky.social to play the 'Hope All Your Dreams Come True' video on #StereoUnderground. In fact, it's now my life's mission. Here's some photo's of #DaisyChainsaw in #Wapping, circa Eleventeen. Photo's by the very wonderful Mick Mercer
Enjoyed returning to my old haunt of #Wapping today, and especially a fabulous lunch at one of #London’s best Italian restaurants, Il Bordello on Wapping Wall.
Hermitage Moorings at low tide - a number of Dutch barges, klipperaak, former light vessels and other historic vessels moored at a pontoon. It is low tide so a broad mud flat is visible between the Wapping wall and the river
Looking upriver from the gangway down to Hermitage Moorings, with the quay wall on the right, the river and the moorings on the left and Tower Bridge in the distance.
Back down to #HermitageMoorings in #Wapping for a day with #MaritimeHeritageTrust, #HistoricEngland #NationalHistoricShips, #SocietyForNauticalResearch and representatives from a number of #HeritageHarbours

This image shows a tranquil waterside scene featuring a large bird perched on a small wooden structure floating on a pond. The bird resembles a heron, with its long neck tucked in and characteristic grey feathers. Behind the heron, there is a patch of water lilies and another bird, possibly a gull, resting among the leaves. In the background, several bicycles are parked along a fence, and a blue car is visible near a walkway lined with brickwork. The overall setting appears to be an urban water garden or a pond within a residential area, combining elements of nature with city life.

* wasn’t actually very windy in London
A swan is captured in mid-flight soaring low over dark water, its wings outstretched in an upward sweep. The swan’s body is parallel to the water’s surface, and it appears just before it begins to descend, with the textured stone wall in the background setting the scene for its landing approach.
The swan is now closer to the water, wings still extended but level with its back, and its long neck is drawn forward in anticipation. Compared to the previous frame, the swan has lowered its altitude further, almost skimming the surface as it prepares for touchdown, maintaining the continuity of flight against the same stone wall.
In this final still, the swan is just about to complete its descent. Its wings are angled slightly downward and its body is barely above the water, seconds away from landing. This frame follows directly after the previous two, showing the graceful culmination of the swan’s landing sequence, with consistent scenery in the background.
A herd of swans landed in the #OrnamentalCanal in #Wapping as I was passing. Didn’t get a great capture but these three cropped pics show one of the birds about to touch down. Always great to witness IRL.

This first image shows a close-up of a rock pigeon (Columba livia), characterized by its iridescent grey feathers with shades of purple and green, orange-red eye, and pale beak. This pigeon is fluffed up, possibly to stay warm or appear larger, and is facing left with its plumage clearly detailed
This second image displays another pigeon, but with a notable difference in coloration: its feathers are predominantly brown with darker patches, and its eye is orange. This coloring is less commonly seen than the standard grey but falls within the natural color variations of feral pigeons. The bird is also shown in a close-up, facing left so its right side is visible.
Pigeons chillin’ in #Wapping.

"Not far from Aldgate is the Town of Ramsgate, in Wapping High Street — a little, low-pitched waterside inn, adjoining Wapping Old Stairs. This is the house where Judge Jeffreys was caught. It was then called the Red Cow. On the flight of James II, Jeffreys decided that it would be wise to follow the Royal example, and so, disguised as a seaman, he came to Wapping to find a ship for Hamburg. He mistook his time, and having several hours to wait, he went to the Red Cow for refreshment. He had shaved off his eyebrows, and was wearing a seaman's suit black with coal-dust. His face also was grimed, and he had every reason for thinking himself secure. But his was a face that, by reason of his words and behaviour to those in his power, stamped itself upon the memory. While taking his refreshment in the Red Cow, he stood at the window, and, by that fatality which often dogs the wicked in life as well as in Sunday-school stories, an attorney whom he had once bullied in court passed by. The attorney gave but one glance, and then roused the neighbourhood with the news that Jeffreys was in their hands. In a few moments the house was surrounded by a crowd of many hundreds, and Jeffreys was only saved from lynching by the arrival of a volunteer company, who arrested him and carried him to the Tower where he died miserably but peacefully." — Thomas Burke, 'The English Inn', Longmans, Green & Co., 1930

Said to have been converted from cottages by artist JMW Turner, Turner’s Old Star is a proper old-school neighbourhood boozer in #Wapping.
Bustling and very friendly, I very much enjoyed it here.
