The image shows a sign prohibiting public urination. The sign features a pictogram of a man urinating, crossed out with a red diagonal line. A surveillance camera is depicted above the figure, highlighting the monitoring aspect. The bottom section of the sign displays a pair of scissors next to two eggs and an exclamation mark, likely suggesting a consequence or warning related to the violation. The sign is attached to a metal fence, with some greenery visible in the background.

That is some brutal communication if the sign says what I think it does...chopchop...

A deliberate and defiant declaration of zero concern over breaking long established house rules.

Senior started it. Junior said, "I'm in," and their maidservant said, "Arg! ...Don't move till I get evidence!"

The image shows the Atomium in Brussels, Belgium, in the background. In the foreground is a field of wildflowers, primarily pink, with a rustic wooden fence partially obscuring the view of some parked cars beyond. The sky is a bright, clear blue with some scattered clouds. The overall impression is one of a sunny day in a park-like setting near a prominent landmark.

Atomium, Brussels, Belgium
As we are celebrating this Monday our national day.
As an iconic piece of architecture, it communicates Brussels' identity to visitors and serves as a symbol of the city, much like the Eiffel Tower does for Paris.

Sign outside a restaurant in North Beach, San Francisco, taken from my table, which was the only one on the sidewalk. Being an early bird has its advantages! I had walked all around the area, searching for Calamari on a lunch menu, finally found this one (though it's not listed on the sign).

Had a chance to visit my beloved San Francisco in 2009, staying at a friend's studio on Russian Hill. I walked all over town every day, hitting all my old haunts. Searched for calamari on a lunch menu in North Beach, found one with one outdoor table. Mine! #AlphabetChallenge #WeekCforCommunications

An early literary citing of โ€œkilling the messengerโ€ is in philosopher and essayist Plutarchโ€™s Lives. The first messenger that gave notice to Tigranes that Lucillus was coming so displeased Tigranes that he ordered the messenger decapitated.

The image depicts a building's facade adorned with a large mural. The mural is divided into sections, each featuring portraits of individuals, healthcare workers and everyday peopleโ€”wearing face masks. The top section prominently displays the words "Thank You" in stylised lettering. The overall style is a blend of realism and illustrative techniques, with a vibrant color palette. The building itself appears somewhat dilapidated, with boarded-up windows, contrasting with the bright and hopeful message of the artwork.ย The scene is set on a street, with cars parked and a pedestrian walking by. In the background, other buildings are visible. A funeral home sign is also noticeable, adding a layer of complexity to the scene's juxtaposition of life and mortality. The mural is a clear expression of gratitude towards essential workers, particularly during a time (implied by masks) of crisis or pandemic.

Alexander Graham Bell making the first call on the instrument that would eventually be called a telephone. He is sitting at a desk, surrounded by curious men.

On March 10, 1876, Bell used "the instrument" in Boston to call Thomas Watson who was in another room but out of earshot. He said, "Mr. Watson, come here - I want to see you" and Watson soon appeared at his side. Continuing his experiments in Brantford, Bell brought home a working model of his telephone.

The image is a monochrome photograph of a brick wall with a telephone booth door and a mailbox. Above the door is a sign that reads "CABINE TELEPHONIQUE" (telephone booth in French). To the right of the door is a mailbox marked "POSTES". There's also a waste bin at the bottom right. The overall tone is somber and slightly aged, suggesting a sense of quietude and perhaps even abandonment. The image is composed in a way that emphasises the textures of the brick wall and the wood of the door.

In the mid-1960s, pioneering communications theorist Marshall McLuhan coined the phrase "the medium is the message" to argue that where and how people receive information is just as important, if not more so, than the content itself.
