Here at the Museum we have an extensive selection of antique and vintage typewriters. We find that young people love to type on a typewriter keyboard. One of our most recent acquisitions is an historic 1873 Sholes and Glidden Type-Writer.

We've looked into our historic print journals for #WorldTypingDay.
This typewriter was featured in a 1979 Nursing Times article on Naidex, the National Aids for the Disabled Exhibition and Conference.
The then state of the art machine enabled blind typists to proof-read with early text-to-speech.

On #WorldTypingDay here are two vintage typewriters, both were displayed at the End of an Era exhibition back in March/April 2016. It’s hard to believe that the hospital closed nearly 10years ago!!

To celebrate here's a typewriter with special apothecary keys which was used in a doctor's surgery. It dates from c.1933

On #WorldTypingDay here are typists busy at work, in Stanton Ironworks typing office in the 1940s. That must have been a noisy place to work, with the click clacks of keys and the dings of those typewriter bells.
