I see yr point & I think our opinions overlap: if they had done a better job, they could have transitioned. 1 big mistake imo is forcing romantic feelings between other characters to fake the chemistry between Anderson & Duchovny and not using the chemistry between them, Patrick & Gish.

I think going into open warfare would have been too much, but it was frustrating how convoluted and mysterious the mythology became. Initially I felt like it was just complex but near the end I become very confused.
