Mystique had been posing as Alex and was determined to take revenge on the leader of the X-Men after he prevented her from escaping during the events of episode 31 Days of recovery. When she woke up, Kitty found herself securely tied/gagged to a chair in a gloomy building in Mexico city, separated from Scott. She had no idea where he had gone what Mystique had done to him or what fate she had in store for him. Rogue had been deeply upset and traumatized since the events of episode 38 Self posseded where she learned that Misty White was actually Mystique and that the people she touched to absorb their thoughts/powers had caused her to develop multiple personalities. The young goth girl needed intense therapy to help her heal psychologically. In order for this to work effectively, Forge brought a power-inhibiting necklace to neutralize Rogue's mutation and allow Charles to touch her so he could use his telepathy as effectively as possible to explore the deepest recesses of the mutant's subconscious. To avoid having a nervous breakdown and becoming unintentionally violent due to a loss of control of her subconscious during therapy, Rogue demanded to be securely tied/gagged to a chair in a section of the mansion and wait for an hour wearing the inhibitor necklace to be calm/soothed enough for the mental therapy to begin under the best conditions.
