Happy to see this!

A defensive Grizzly encounter with a trail runner here in #YohoNP on Monday. The more people in the forest, the greater the chances of bear encounters. Make noise, everyone!!!
Another day & a Parks employee has to deal with an animal struck by a car on #bchwy1 in #YohoNP. Today, a mountain goat kid hit by a speeding car and severely injured. Enough is enough!!! Time twin and fence this highway!!! No more excuses!!! #cdnpoli

A ruffed grouse was on the trail as I turned a corner, trusting in it's camoflage until the right moment to make a break.
Ruffed Grouse
Seen on the Yoho Pass/Yoho Lake trail on 6/5/25
Turned a corner after reaching the forest section of the trail only to see this wonderful grouse, which stuck around for pictures before running iff into the forest.

A temporary waterfall flows from the President range of the Waputik mountains. The high is Angle peak.
Wapta mountain sits across from the serene waters of Yoho lake. Still a little avalanche to be let go of on the mountain, and that side of the lake was still deep snow. Red chairs just out of frame.
Looking up towards Angle Peak with a large field of snow still at the top of the Avalanche zone beyond it.
The view as you decend from Yoho pass back into the valley shows the many tracks the stream flows take in the large avalanche zone feeding into Emerald Lake. Mt Deville lies behind the Tocher ridge in the distance.

Looking Northeast from the south side of the appropriately named Emerald lake. Various peaks along the President range of the Waputik mountains may be seen.
Looking south across Emerald lake towards Mount Burgess which is reflected in the rippled water.
The view from the south side of Emerald lake showing the avalanche zone of Emerald peak, which was still closed due to avalanche risk at the time.
Looking north from Emerald lake shows the vast avalanche field and flood plains that feeds the lake. Carmar peak, Mt Marpole, and the ridge leading up to the President sit in the background.

The covered lookout with Divide mountain, Mount Whyte and Mount Victoria on the left and the Cathedral shoulder on the right
A Trail view cutting across the steep slope of Paget mountain that shows the Cathedral mountains to the right. This is the only level section of the Lookout section and it is short lived.
The rear side of the lake has one section that passes through a washout. Trail may be seen wrapping around the beautiful lakeside with Cathedral mountain off in the distance.
Looking across the stunning waters of Sherbrooke lake towards the avalanche zone of Mt Ogden, currently a waterslide.

Looking down from the rear bowl of the hoodoos. The edges of the trail may be seen undergoind the undercutting that is a part of the evolution of hoodoos.
An upstream view of Hoodoo creek taken from the walking bridge. Mountains may be seen in the distance.
The view up at the hoodoos from the lower trail terminus. Trees grow in the more stable sections of the hill.
This section of the lower hoodoos trail was very degraded, with atleast one foothold wedged into the slide.

Close-up image of a small fossil polychaete "bristle worm". The slightly curved body is preserved as a flattened film on a flecked grey mudstone matrix. Small paired bundles of lateral setae show up as silvery reflections along the length of the worm. A dark, slightly reflective ribbon-like trace down the mid-line marks the gut. The "head" of the worm is to the right, and at the rear end a short dark stain is interpreted as gut contents extruded after burial. This is yet another superb specimen in the Invertebrate Palaeontology collections of the Royal Ontario Museum. Gotta slip in a late-in-the-day #WormWednesday post: Burgessochaeta setigera is a #fossil stem-group #polychaete from the #BurgessShale. Nice reflective setae in this specimen + an infilled gut trace. Approx. 25 mm long - anterior to right. #Cambrian (~508 MYA), #YohoNP, #BritishColumbia 🇨🇦
A powerful waterfall thunders down light brown rock into a valley off lush green trees and plants. The stream from the waterfall is ice blue from glacial runoff.
Takkakaw Falls is as beautiful as it it powerful! It's one of the tallest falls in Canada. Set in the scenic Yoho NP.

My favorite picture of my spark bird, the incredible #stellersjay. This was taken in #yohoNP on the border between Alberta and British Columbia in late summer 2024.
