Budget 2026 predicts a $9.4B deficit for Alberta. The province is on pace for a a 17% per capita rise in program spending from 2022–23 to 2028-29. As Lennie Kaplan points out, the #UCP government must rein in expenditures through program reviews and service delivery alternatives. #ABpoli #ABbudget

Alberta projects a $9.4B deficit in 2026-27. In the '90s, Premier Ralph Klein trimmed program expenses ~21% and turned a $3.4B deficit into a $1.1B surplus. He asked each department to present 20% to 40% cut scenarios. The Smith #UCP government needs the Klein approach. #ABpoli #ABbudget

The UCP is finally paying their property taxes.

Lots of issues with the #abbudget but after Kenney unilaterally slashed the province's property taxes in half in 2020, it is very good news that cities are getting full value again

We're not getting the $100M+ in backtaxes though.

Always the most telling graph in the #abbudget. Alberta could go from the projected $9.4 billion deficit to a $7 billion surplus and STILL be the lowest-taxed province in Canada.

Calgary cancer patients lose access to after-hours oncology support line | CBC News A Calgarian living with terminal cancer is calling on health officials in Alberta to restore access to after-hours specialist care for patients of the province’s largest cancer centre.

Well look, it's your fault for getting cancer in the first place, so the least you could do is have the courtesy to get sick during regular office hours.

Global economic uncertainty, lower oil prices & population growth are placing pressure on Alberta’s finances & public services.

Alberta needs more classrooms, hospital capacity, infrastructure & support systems at a time when resource revenues are down.
