This is a picture of some of the contents of the Apple Softcard III System box which has the two software diskettes in it. These "Apple Softcard III CP/M Master Diskette" and "Apple Softward III Utilities Diskette". The packing list is also shown noting that these two diskettes are the only ones that come with the package.

I should probably just post the random pics I take on occasion. This one was to answer the question of where Microsoft BASIC is for the Apple III. Happens to be on the Softcard III CP/M Master diskette.

My Apple III is complete! I wasn’t sure I was ever going to find a 9 key for it. But the gaping hole is now plugged. Combined with a proper Monitor III it’s looking good.

The Apple III is back together. I’m really happy I was able to save this rare bird & add it to my collection. It has come a long way from a disgusting feces filled bio hazard. Maybe one day I’ll find a replacement “9” key and monitor for it.

The keyboard is fixed. A good dose a contact cleaner brought the “S” key back. But the “K” needed a little open heart surgery to bring it back. But all keys check out on the keyboard now. Time to re-assemble this rare beast.

Apple III back on the bench. Got my replacement keyboard controller from @museumjoe.bsky.social time to see if it alone does the trick or if there’s more to the no keyboard problem.

The Apple III repair is on pause. Last thing is the keyboard. All looks good on the board and the circuitry but the controller chip has bad voltages coming out of it. Talking with @MuseumJoe looks to be a bad chip. So replacement on order.

IT’S ALIVE!!! WOW! First power up of the Apple III and no errors it started right up. Even the drive appears to be working. But as suspected no keyboard. I’ll have to check the board but a good chance that keyboard controller chip is bad.

Every chip pulled, socket cleaned, and chip reseated on the Apple III. That was a lot of socketed chips and several felt loose, so I might be going back to replace quite a few. The legs on that keyboard controller chip are in bad shape.

We have dates. May 1982–midlife of the Apple III. What was Apple thinking with this massive chunk of aluminum for the body. Did they think this was the future of their computers? Were they going to invest in aluminum foundries next.

PSU looks good. But we have some cracked Rifas that need to come off. Drive looks good but the motor or spindle are a little scratchy. Keyboard is well dirty to say the least.

Starting the teardown, the Apple III is pretty dirty. Unfortunately the 9 key on the numpad is broken off and missing. Otherwise it looks good and appears to be an upgraded 256k model.
