This vintage black-and-white press postcard documents the first Boeing 720 during its final production stages at the Boeing Airplane Company plant in Renton, Washington, in 1959. The aircraft is shown inside the assembly facility with “Boeing 720” prominently painted on the forward fuselage. Technicians and equipment surround the aircraft, illustrating late-stage assembly work prior to rollout. The printed caption beneath the photograph identifies it as the first of 46 Boeing 720 medium-range jet airliners on order at that time. The text notes that the aircraft was one of 18 scheduled for delivery to United Air Lines and that it was powered by Pratt & Whitney JT3C-7 turbojet engines, each rated at 12,000 pounds of thrust. The Boeing 720 was a shortened and lighter derivative of the Boeing 707, designed for medium-range routes and improved field performance. According to the caption, the aircraft had a gross weight of 202,000 pounds and a passenger capacity ranging from 90 to 150.
