The fundamental problem with #branchLines of course is that one end is in a less important place so won't be used that much, so trains tend not to be used very efficiently. If the line continues to another city, overlapping journeys to or from both ends will give a much better coverage. This is [โฆ]

This old map shows very clearly why the Great Western Railway wanted the #Somerset & #Dorset mainline and if they couldnโt have, they would close it.
After 1948 their people ran Western Region of #BritishRail and our line was deliberately run down - victim of the #Beeching Report closures. #GWR
