Bennett Keith Schaeufele (March 6, 1937 – July 26, 2010) passed away at Neil's Broken Arrow Ranch in California.
There's so much more to Ben than his contributions to Neil's music. I hope everyone takes some time to look into his life and music.

4/ One of my favorite songs from Harvest is one of Neil's masterpieces and features both Neil and Ben's most moving playing of the sessions.
Notice Ben's steel fading out with the end of the song...

3/ Those five songs were part of one of the the finest moments of the 70s - Harvest. No way I can talk to anyone about Neil and not eventually getting around to the subject of Harvest.
Ben's sound is all over that record. That giant, wonderful backdrop of sound is Ben's steel.

2/ According to the story, Neil met Ben while in Nashville, recording 1972's Harvest. As Ben tells the story, "I set up my steel and kind of snuck in there and started playing and we did five songs before we ever stopped and introduced ourselves.".

1/ Today is a special day.
On March 6th, 1937, the late, great Ben Keith was born.
Best known as pedal steel guitarist on numerous Neil Young projects spanning nearly 40 years, Ben's first claim to fame was playing pedal steel on Patsy Cline's hit "I Fall to Pieces" in 1961.
