The only totally fine handhelds here are the gray Gameboy Pocket, the white Gameboy Advance, and the red Gameboy Advance SP. The other 4 have significant issues that will require the installment of replacement parts and / or minor soldering.
This Gameboy DMG has seen better days. Battery corrosion has all but consumed its copper shielding plate. Rosin flux residue has also covered many of the solder points. A bath in white vinegar and subsequent bath in 91% isopropyl alcohol is in this board's future.
Thankfully, the battery corrosion hasn't eaten its way to the other side of the board. A recapping might well be advised here.
The LCD has been permanently damaged. It might be best to just get a whole new board rather than try to solder on a new screen. I might as well take advantage of the Gameboy DMG using a separate board for the screen than the rest of the unit. I just don't have money to spend on a replacement screen at this time, so it's going on the back burner. That and it probably needs a whole new shell casing, too.
There are some repair projects available to me. They include, but are not limited to:
- A DS Phat with a broken hinge and top screen
- A DS Lite with broken hinge and dead pixels on its top screen
- A GBA SP (blue) with snapped ribbon cable. Dead screen.
- A GB DMG in...this condition 😱

I know that Jeff Kaplan is only saying this type of stuff because he's no longer employed with Blizzard, but it is refreshing to hear a highly regarded game industry vet come out and say something like this.
We need more people who actually make games to be blunt with gamers.

Moving on from Ys 1 & 2, my next video project is another shortform JRPG from the late 1980s.
Many would reduce Sweet Home to mere trivia, but I find it a pretty outstanding game in its own right. Where else can you find dogs with an elemental weakness to mallets?

Played a bit of Deathloop. First impressions? Why oh why does it have Marvel movie writing/humor? Not that it’s a dealbreaker but it makes me less interested in the characters which seem interesting otherwise. I will see, the game still does seem promising #blutoid

Finished Romeo is a Dead Man. It's rad, I loved it. Crazy as hell and a lot of fun.

In all honesty if DLSS 5 simply stuck to inventing AI approximations of path tracing, I feel like that actually could be transformative because you could get the look of path tracing without the cost. But instead it apparently rewrites the geometry and textures of faces? Lmao.
