White eyed vireo with fright molt, perched on a horizontal branch, facing right. This is a small songbird with an olive-yellow crown, a white throat, a nice bright yellow eye ring, gray nape, and striking white eyes. His flanks are lemon yellow and his wings are dark gray with lemon yellow wing bars. His bill is large, black, and hooked. But he has no tail! At all! It was lost due to some shock or predator frightening the bird quite recently. The tail feathers will grow back. Meanwhile, the bird can still fly but not very well. The background is mostly unfocused bright yellow-green foliage.

Here's a couple more heron pics from the rookery.
First pic is the parent leaving the nest after feeding its ungrateful sproglings.
Second pic is a different nest. These dopey derps sit like this 'til the food comes. Love that one of them appears to be fascinated by a bug.
