A piece of SPVM history! 👮♂️🇨🇦 The Montreal Police used these Honda CB750K "Police Specials" in the early 70s. Note the iconic blue fairing and radio box paired with the classic white paint. A true vintage legend.

Classy cafe racer projects based on the Honda CB750 are nothing new, but the specimen we’ll be looking at today was taken down a different path. It’s still referred to as a cafe racer by the builder, but we see it leaning heavily toward outright sport bike.

What do the Hornet and me have in common?
Riding for an hour and a half on a Sunday recharges our batteries.

Took the Hornet out for a quick spin today. Great weather, but we expect 0°C the day after tomorrow.

However I’m glad I did it as the old oil was black, and the filter had a 2008 date code on it. The bike shifts much easier now, and it is something I really should have done when I got it a few months ago.

I did my first oil change on my 1975 CB750F today. It was way more of a pain in the ass than I expected. It has both an oil tank and the sump to drain, which wasn’t a problem.
What sucked was the filter. It is not a spin-on filter like on most modern bikes, [continues below]

The inline 4-cylinder engine of a red 1970 Honda CB750. It has been restored to better-than-new condition, and looks stunning.
Beautiful 1970 Honda CB750K engine. This one is polished up and restored and looks brand spanking new. I wish it was mine!

Just another shot of the CB750 that I thought looked cool. Couldn't decide which edit I liked best so I just uploaded them all.

#BMW #boxer #CB750 #Desmodromic #Ducati

Parking lot entrance sign reflected in a round motorcycle mirror during the evening golden hour. The mostly empty lot is visible in the background, and the gauges of a Honda CB750 motorcycle are visible in the foreground.
A Honda CB750 reflected in the mirror of a Honda Rebel 500. Bikeception. The bikes are parked on a suburban street during the evening golden hour.

The lens, finally removed, and in my hand. The CB750 (and friends) is visible in the background.
The naked light fixture with big shiny reflector, with a dual-filament 1157 bulb installed. The offending gasket is visible around the perimeter of the fixture.
… some time over the past 50 years. It then took me far too long to think of applying heat to the problem, but eventually I did and my $15 electric heat gun saved the day.
It’s now all back together again and ready for the road once more!

The offending article. The red plastic lens on a Honda CB750 tail light, secured by 4 long screws. An Illinois license plate is visible below the tail light.
Fun adventures in owning a vintage motorcycle: the simple task of changing a tail light bulb devolved into a multi-hour spectacle because despite removing all of the screws, the lens simply refused to come off.

Beautiful day for a ride in the Wasatch mountains. The Brit driving his Porsche 911 Carrera 4S who rolled down his window to ask me about my 50-year-old bike made it even more special. #CB750 #vintagemotorcycle

I never recommend the CB750 Hornet to anyone taller than 185 cm, but after 70 km on the CBR my wife wanted to switch bikes and the Hornet felt like a comfy couch. Never enjoyed riding it more!

The original equipment thermal flasher relay. There’s a patent number on it that dates to 1965. It is old and tired and it giving consistent flash rates.
The modern replacement electronic flasher relay from Napa. $12, marginally larger than the original one but still fits in the same spot. Now my turn signals flash at a sane rate!
I tackled probably the easiest, most low-hanging-fruit repair on the CB750 today. Turn signals. I replaced the original 50-year-old thermal flasher relay with a modern electronic one. Success!
