I thought white people liked dead white men, like Plato. Didn’t they complain about non-white guys being taught? What’s a philosopher-king but a dictator draped in academic clothing?

"The Angel Who Prayed for Everyone But Himself" This angel isn’t just decoration. He’s praying. For Sofya Tutolmina (1772–1833), the senator’s wife who raised a foundling boy and left him her fortune. For her husband Ivan Vasilyevich (1760–1839). For their childless life, full of love. Tomb, 1839, sculptor I.P. Vitali. Lost in the 1920s, restored in 2019. Here he is again, in summer sun, shot on expired Kodak Plus-X 125. Moscow, 2022. Technical Credits: Location: Donskoy Monastery Necropolis, Moscow, Russia Camera: Samsung Vega 77i QD Film: Kodak Professional Plus-X 125 (expired December 2012) Development: Kodak D-76 Scanner: Fujifilm Frontier SP-3000 (no corrections applied — raw scan) Date: August 13, 2022 Notes: Film stored under unknown conditions for ~10 years past expiry. Results are experimental — a dialogue between time, chemistry, and chance. Grain softened, contrast reduced, tonal range subtly shifted. Each frame carries the memory of its own decay.
"The Weeping Cupids of the Baryshnikova Tomb" This tomb in Moscow’s Donskoy Cemetery belongs to Elizaveta Ivanovna Baryshnikova (1772–1806) — a noblewoman, mother of 13 children (6 died in infancy), who passed away at 34, half a year after giving birth to her last child. Designed by architect N.A. Lvov: red quartzite, bronze relief with Chronos, and a marble group of two mourning cupids holding a funeral urn. The epitaph reads: “To my gentle wife and truest friend, a mother who gave her life for her children…” — a personal letter across centuries. Shot on expired Kodak Plus-X 125. Moscow, 2022. A symmetrical architectural walkway composed of large corten steel frames forming a geometric rhythm that leads toward a neoclassical building with columns. The marble floor reflects light, and potted plants line the corridor.

A rhythmic passage of corten frames leading to a neoclassical portico — modern rigor meeting timeless symmetry. Rossi would approve.

Designed in 1916 by architect #WilliamGTachau - trained, like many of his generation, in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts - and completed in 1923, the Bandshell is a unique example of this sort of #classicism in the Park.
