There are many varieties of Swans, most are white in colour, but there are vast differences between the white varieties. We won’t pretend to know which types any of these are…and, honestly, it doesn’t matter here. For all we wished to show - in this series of Free Images -are Swans in various stages of courtship before “Swanning off into the Sunset…” ~💞

For all we wished to show - in this series of Free Images -are Swans in various stages of courtship before “Swanning off into the Sunset…” ~💞

In this Free Image - Not Our Photo- A pair of Swans are shown in a courtship dance, heads turned together to the left, their back feathers all fluffed up beautifully. Tbh, we’ve seen male swans fluff their feathers up in a confrontational, territorial way; or to warn off other birds & protect their nests. But this pair, on rippling blue waters, seem more in tune with each other…so it seems yet another stage of their pairing-for-Life “dance.” Beautiful, their feathers reflected in the ripples of the lake they’re swimming together…~💞

This 3rd Free Image - not our photo - shows a pair of swans so bonded in courtship, they’ve formed almost a Heart shape, head to head, face to face, their long necks like the curving sides of the Heart that’s completed in their slightly raised bodies. It’s so extraordinary a sight, this courtship and bonding. Decades ago, on a regular trip I used to take to a frequent event away from home, I used to see a pair of Swans on a pond. Every year they would be there, together. Then one year, I saw only one Swan…and it seemed so sad…Eventually that Swan was gone, too. We cannot know if its mate never made it back to the pond…or what might have happened to either. So many swans fly long, arduous journeys to return to where they are used to meeting up with their partner and nesting each year. They face such tremendous obstacles in severe weather, storms, changes caused by Global Warming which throw many birds off course completely. And, sadly, even where they live year round, they also face the danger that heartless humans present: fishing lines that catch their necks-strangling, fishing lures that get lodged in their throats - horrific and often fatal injuries result, just from those carelessly discarded objects & rubbish people leave. There are ppl who shoot swans for “sport” - illegal here in the UK, as all swans are considered to be the property of The Crown…but it should be a crime Everywhere anyway. How anyone could harm these extraordinary, beautiful and, yes, caring, loving birds…is beyond all understanding. To our minds, there’s no punishment great enough for such heartless, thoughtless “humans.” …But here, we see a pair mated for Life, forming what humans would see as a Heart… Love is not something only humans feel… Indeed, as we’ve tried to show this month, feelings cross so many boundaries of Living creatures, all of whom deserve our Love, care & respect. “What the World needs now: Love, sweet Love…” as the song goes…truer now than ever. ~tamisar💞

The golden glow of Sunset fills the sky above the dark outline of low mountains on the horizon and that glow is reflected in the water…What a beautiful conclusion, as they, quite literally 😉 “Swan off into the Sunset.” Happy Valentine’s Day to EveryOne: whether you’re with a partner, a spouse, your best friend…or especially if you’re on your own, for whatever reason. Maybe today just makes you feel that much more sad and alone. Not everyone finds “true love” and many have suffered in the search for it. So it has been for centuries, that seemingly unattainable & unrealistic goal of finding the “Perfect Love”…Sometimes they turn out to be the exact opposite.💔😢 Some of us may Never meet “The One.” Or maybe the right person for us - if there is one - could be the one you least expected, someone you’ve known for years - who truly knows the Real You & accepts & loves you Just As You Are, who’s been with you thru thick and thin for many years. This free image - not our photo - shows two beautiful Swallowtail Butterflies in mid-flight above a green area of grasses & other plants. This pair are brown & white, with frilly edges to their wings - the white is a zigzag stripe design across the far edges, with spots of white along those delicately frilled edges. We’re not certain, so forgive us if we’ve mistakenly identified this variety, but we think these are Citrus Swallowtails. Butterflies need nectar from flowers & many species are disappearing rapidly due to humans building and paving over habitats, as well as the terrible effects of Climate Change. Please try to Garden For Wildlife. Planting Butterfly bushes-a.k.a. Buddleia -is one way to help them. Even if you don’t have a garden space, perhaps you have a stoop or a balcony? There are varieties of Buddleia that grow short & can thrive as potted plants. They’re known as Butterfly Bushes with good reason: their spikes (not sharp, just long clusters) of tiny flowers are nectar-rich and perfect for attracting & feeding butterflies (and bees, too)! Buddleia are hardy, growing wild in all sorts of places. In the UK, we see them all along railway lines, their seeds having been swept into the air along the way. If you can manage to plant a Butterfly bush-whether in a garden space or a pot-make sure to snip off spent spikes (making sure all the flowers in them are finished first, for even a few tiny blooms left still have nectar). By doing this-gardeners call this “deadheading”-you’ll encourage more growth & flower spikes. Garden & wild buddleia can grow very tall, so will need cutting back. There are many plant/gardening websites that can tell you how best to care for them, when to cut back, etc. But any nectar rich flowering plants can help these beautiful creatures, as well as bees…& they do need our help🙏❤️🦋~tamisar💞
