"The Sumerian Dog Joke doesn't make sense" - okay, imagine explaining why this is funny to anyone 50 years out in either direction"
Image is a minimalistic Loss meme.
text explaining the Sumerian Dog Joke (screenshot from Wiki)
"One of the earlies examples of bar jokes is Sumerian (c4500-1900 BCE) and it features a dog:
A dog walked into a tavern and said, 'I can't see a thing. I'll open this one'
The humor of it is probably related to the Sumer way of life and has been lost, but the words remain. "

explanation as to why Loss is funny
It was based on a real experience years in the past, but (the artist) deciding to drop it cold turkey into a crass humor game comic was still unhinged and totally a fair target for ridicule.
Miscarriage is not funny, a comedian dropping a miscarriage story with no provocation whatsoever into a joke comic and clearly expecting it to be taken seriously is funny purely because of the tone-deaf hubris and incompetence in storytelling.
We laugh not at a real woman's suffering, but the buffoonery of deciding a gaming webcomic whose punchlines were almost entirely random murder and violence was the right place and time to shoehorn in such a serious and painful real world tragedy
I'm at a Loss for words.
Great example of a multi layer meme.
No idea why the first "something walks into a bar" joke isn't funny to us, but I'm sure it was hilarious then.
