It's established in game that Asgore was fired from the police force and later replaced by Undyne. It is also established that Kris and Carol have some kind of deal going on (likely related to the dark worlds), where there is a requirement of a "police sacrifice".
The short version of the theory is that the true motive behind Asgore being fired was to spare him from the fate of the "police sacrifice" required to fulfill the prophecy.
I've had this Deltarune theory at the back of my head for a good while, but finally managed to make whatever this mess of graphics is for it.
Anyways, here is my little theory on why Asgore was fired.
