Bummer, hate to hear that #Digg is shutting down only after a few months. I have been using the beta application and thought it was genuinely better than #Reddit .

Hey @christianselig - sorry about #Digg shutting down (for now). Y’all really did an amazing job on the app! Was quite lovely.
Ever think about developing for something in the fediverse? #Lemmy, #Mastodon, maybe a #Bluesky + Mastodon merge app?
Just curious.
OK. Where are the questions I asked on #Digg? Where are the answers I received on Digg?
Whatever this thing is evolving into, do they expect users to trust them again?
Just two months after its comeback by Kevin Rose and Alexis Ohanian, Digg shuts down citing overwhelming AI bot spam, signaling challenges in social news platforms.

R.I.P. Digg. Again. Two months after attaining open beta, Digg has died. Again.
Digg states that the site was completely overrun by AI bots that they could not successfully contain nor moderate, and had no choice but to shut down.

Digg's short-lived reboot is on pause, and a sizeable proportion of staff are being laid off, but the story isn't over. Founder Kevin Rose sold the company in 2012 but repurchased it, alongside Alexis Ohanian, in 2025, relaunching it in open beta in January 2026 as "the front page of the […]
Can't say I had massively high hopes for #Digg reboot, but I find it slightly galling that they claim AI abuse for it shutting down, yet embraced AI summaries on the content posted which deprived the sources of click through Ad revenue

A Hard Reset, and What Comes Next Building on the internet in 2026 is different. We learned that the hard way. Today we're sharing difficult news: we've made the decision to significantly downsize the Digg team. This wasn't a decision made lightly, and it's important to say clearly: this is one of the strongest groups of people we've ever had the privilege of working with. This is not a reflection of their talent, their effort, or their belief in what we were building. It's a reflection of the brutal reality of finding product-market fit in an environment that has fundamentally changed. We faced an unprecedented bot problem When the Digg beta launched, we immediately noticed posts from SEO spammers noting that Digg still carried meaningful Google link authority. Within hours, we got a taste of what we'd only heard rumors about. The internet is now populated, in meaningful part, by sophisticated AI agents and automated accounts. We knew bots were part of the landscape, but we didn't appreciate the scale, sophistication, or speed at which they'd find us. We banned tens of thousands of accounts. We deployed internal tooling and industry-standard external vendors. None of it was enough. When you can't trust that the votes, the comments, and the engagement you're seeing are real, you've lost the foundation a community platform is built on. This isn't just a Digg problem. It's an internet problem. But it hit us harder because trust is the product.
LOL #digg shuts down .. again.
Digg pulls the plug on its open beta after just two months, blaming a flood of AI‑generated bot spam. CEO Justin Mezzell says moderation woes hit hard. Curious how this affects the tech revival? Dive in. #AIBotSpam #Digg #TechRevival

So.....
I used to be a member of digg.com. They started it back up, and I jump at the chance to get in. For those who don't know, digg was the original of what Reddit became. I started a Linux-audio group there, and in a few days, it had grown to 60 people.
Today, I went to sign in, and found […]

That's some #digg move. They had a newsletter for interested users, too. And then went online without telling any of them.

Digg is back, for better or worse.
It looks like it is shaping up to possibly compete directly with reddit.

The Birds community I made on #Digg just got featured!!! 🥳🦜
We passed 100 members yesterday and we’re almost at 150!!
Makes me so happy to build this small and budding community of people who enjoy birds :)
The new #Digg is useless for creating a community around your interests. Their AI removes your posts without citing a reason. Even if the content is interesting and the intent is clear.
If you can start your community, but aren't in control, that's a rug pull waiting happen.
Not worth your time!
