Shot taken in Lordsburg New Mexico on the Sunset Limited Amtrak train, Jan/09/2026. desc; Low light shot of a train car, vacant of anyone and stopped at a train station, on the far left is a bunch of art supplies and textbooks. the shot is framed as if someone suddenly disappeared under unclear, mysterious circumstances. "I was down in the cafe observatory car, late at night on a lightly occupied train on my way home from Painted Desert Fur Con earlier this year. I went to the bathroom while we were stopped and when I came out I noticed how the way I left my stuff on the table. It looked from the angle I took the shot like a train car in a Japanese suburb where a student who was studying on the train went suddenly missing. Paranoia Agent bag for added spooky flavor."
Shot taken in Willits, California in the Noyo Theatre Jan/14/2025. Desc; A darkly lit, empty small town theater, the other end in the dark a lit exit sign. on the far wall is a minimal palette portrait of Charlie Chaplin, a lone Chandelier over the rows of empty, red velvet seats. On the screen is an advertisement for a local business in Willits California. "Took this shot while still recovering from my newly acquired hernia and a couple days before my 'rescue' back to Texas by my mom. I remember going to see that middling remake of The Wolfman that came out the December prior and just being sadder than I realized I would be to have to leave. I'm over that feeling now and have better goals now, so that's good at least."
Shot taken in the Russian Orthodox Holy Trinity Chapel in Fort Ross Historic State Park, California Sep/13/2024. Desc; dark aged wooden walls and dusty floors of a long unused chapel. the far wall is adorned with the remaining original trinkets and counters of the original altar. above the center of the room is an old brass chandelier. "I took this pic because in the quietness of this room I felt a weird tingle of power within it. I know that's me and my associations, as even I grew up with a lot of spiritual superstition and dare I say, christian upbringing that didn't stick. But even so, the history of the place, the sorrow that may have been felt, as well as the joviality. What stories were told in that room, and you know at one point there were many stories told. none uttered in there now, regardless of the nature of the tales. shame that, it would make for the backdrop of a good ghost shiver or two."
Shot Taken in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Jan/10/2026 desc; living room of a minimal to moderately furnished home. adobe tile floors and beige walls show the home has not been updated in some time. on the far wall is an oil painting of an old bayou home, christmas decor and other stuff on a mantle beneath it. the fireplace is recessed deep into the wall. there's a folded recliner in front of the fireplace, as if being packed up or just being unpacked. on a plush, closest to the viewer, is a photograph of a family of four, happy but vague and obviously dressed in a dated fashion. "This shot was sneakily taken in the living room of my Great Aunt's son's home after we finished with unpacking her house post-mortem. She passed on New Years and as soon as I got home from PDFC my mom sent me on a side quest to Baton Rouge to help with her affairs. Family helps Family after all. This pic is good souvenir. Rest In Peace Aunt Kathy, we love you"
I honestly love liminal space photos, despite the uncanny feeling places liminal spaces like these invoke.
In a world away from over-stimulation, if I were the last person on earth, I'd find peace. Tho I would find loneliness too in time...
