Ruby Bridges was born on September eighth, nineteen fifty four, entire town, Mississippi. She was the eldest of five children born to Lucille and Alvin Bridges, who were hardworking parents determined to provide a better future for their children. When Ruby reached school age, her parents made a brave and risky decision to allow Ruby to participate in the desegregation process in New Orleans. Despite the chaos, Ruby, escorted by federal marshals, attended school each day, bravely walking past the belligerent crowds. Ruby's inspiration came from her parents resilience and the support of her community. Her teacher, Barbara Henry, was also instrumental in the process, as she taught Ruby all alone in a classroom for an entire year. Little Ruby finished the school year becoming the first black student to integrate France Elementary, marking a historic moment in the civil rights movement Today, Ruby Bridges is a civil rights activist, author and speaker.
