A 6-year #FirstIntifada began on #ThisDayInHistory in 1987. Most reporting ignores that it was mainly #nonviolent on the #Palestinian side. The response included torture, snipers, home demolition, black-outs, & hunger, with ~2000 killed (vs ~170 Israelis, mostly security forces).
In 1987 on #ThisDayInHistory, at the #ErezCrossing between #Israel and the #GazaStrip, an #IDF truck caused a traffic accident that killed four #Palestinians and wounded seven others. Israel's violent response to protests over this made it one of the sparks of the #FirstIntifada.
Days of Rage provides an intimate look at the First Intifada through the eyes of Palestinian youth. It documents their non-violent resistance against the Israeli occupation. First aired on PBS on September 6, 1989.
