A juvenile Alaskan coastal brown bear -- probably two or three years old -- pauses at the edge of a river. Its head is lifted as it observes its surroundings through sight, hearing, and most importantly, smell. Its surroundings are lush and green with just a hint of early Autumn color in some of the vegetation.
I observed this #young #Alaskan #coastal #brown #bear cautiously picking its way along the #Brooks #river bank, careful to avoid much larger / mature #bears while it #fished and scavenged.🐻
