A forest of loblolly pine and mixed hardwoods that has just been thinned. Charred bark on the pines is from previous controlled burns.
Same area as previous picture, thinned about two years ago. Grass and forbs have regrown. The rather wide spacing between trees provides good habitat for quail. a species that has been in decline.
For #ForestFriday, examples of management on private land in Georgia. The same family has owned this land for decades. To folks who dislike timber management, consider that huge swaths of forest land are being bulldozed for data centers and trucking centers. I'd rather see trees!
