This illustration shows an energy-correlation, but #FormFactor translates equally to costs, leakage, air-sealing & upfront carbon footprint. I’m not advocating for total austerity of form, but I do think we need to move away from enforced complexity. Especially in a housing + climate crisis.

Subjective…? This is where a defined term with a formal calculation can help. #FormFactor is that term. It offers a number that designers can calculate and local jurisdictions can enforce.

Btw, the technical term for what we’re discussing here is ‘Form Factor’ - the relationship between exterior surface envelope to floor area. The simpler the #FormFactor, the more efficient the building is to build, heat+cool & maintain.
