#80 Joe Zaleski provided the Blue Bombers the opportunity to dress 2 American QBs in the same game. Zaleski had one 300+ yard passing game in his career. Ironically, he did not start that game. Jack Jacobs was ejected from the game early in the first quarter by Cliff Roseborough.
'Black Magic' Joe Zaleski played 3 seasons for the Blue Bombers (1952-1954).
With star QB Jack Jacobs in the doghouse of coach George Trafton, Zaleski started 9 consecutive games leading up to the 1953 #GreyCup. Jacobs started the championship game.

CFL 'officially' credits Jim Van Pelt with his first career start on September 13, 1958 (based on 'research'). Van Pelt replaced the actual starting QB Kenny Ploen early in the game after Ploen suffered a separated shoulder. Van Pelt's first career start took place on September 15, 1958 (based on facts). Van Pelt started the 1958 season on the reserve list as the Blue Bombers went with 🇨🇦 QB Barry Roseborough as the backup. An injury to Roseborough (broken nose) got Van Pelt onto the game day roster. Van Pelt was selected over Eagle Day because Van Pelt was a better DB, the role that a backup QB typically played in this era.
QB/K Jim Van Pelt was the star of the 1958 #GreyCup scoring 22 points (2TDs, 2FGs, 4 converts)
His 1959 season ended in game 15 (of 16) when he separated his shoulder.
He missed the next 3 seasons due USAF commitment.
Van Pelt officially retired prior to the 1963 #CFL season

Rather than the #CFL focusing on seemingly making the Canada's more American, I wish they'd focus instead on expansion of a 10th team. Personally, Halifax would be great given the potential fanbase and passion for Canadian football. I believe in the phrase "build it and they will come." 🇨🇦🏈 #GreyCup
