🌎 Sickle-winged guan (Chamaepetes goudotii) The sickle-winged guan is a large bird with distinctive long, sickle-shaped wing feathers. Adults typically have mainly black plumage with a glossy greenish sheen, a red dewlap, and a red wattle around the eye. This species is distributed along the Andes Mountains from Colombia to Bolivia, primarily in humid and wet montane forests between 800 and 3,000 meters in elevation. They can be found in tall forests, forest edges, and older secondary growth. Sickle-winged guans are arboreal, foraging mainly in fruiting trees, often high up in the canopy, for small fruits, but also consume flowers, leaves, and invertebrates. They are usually seen in pairs or small groups, foraging around dawn and dusk. They are considered shy and elusive birds. Five subspecies are recognised. Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1) CLKA
