The cover, with a heavily-armored warrior battling a menacing knight in the foreground, entangling his sword in the chain of her flail, while a spellcaster shoots lightning at some cultist types farther back. It’s in a city, during a large-scale battle that’s laid waste to surrounding buildings. The event logo: “Pathfinder Hellfire Crisis” is across the top, while the book title: “Hellbreakers Adventure Path” is below, with the authors’ names: Sen H.H.S., Jason Keely, and Jacob W. Michaels.
Illustration from the back cover. A woman in a red sleeveless gown waves a black flag emblazoned with the fiery pentagram of Asmodeus from atop a grand staircase, flanked by a quartet of musicians dressed as devils. Behind her is a large archway; the archway and stair rails are opulent gold, and the curtains behind her a hellish crimson, matching the carpet on the stair (and the woman’s dress). At the bottom of the stair in the foreground are the two duelists—on the left, an elven woman in a black sleeveless dress and gloves, wielding a silver rapier, and on the right a mustached man in a red doublet over black shirt and pants, with elaborately white ruffed cravat and cuffs that seem thoroughly impractical for sword fighting. He’s drawing a broadsword from a gold-chased scabbard at his hip, accompanied by a glimmer of magic. All parties wear headgear—devil-horned hoods for the musicians, what appears to be a mask and headdress on the woman atop the staircase, a golden, plume-adorned domino mask for the man on the right, and last but very much not least a dark horned crown on the elf on the left, who I’m more and more convinced is the baddie in the moral sense as well as the aesthetic. But that’s okay because she is absolutely *serving* in that ensemble. I can fix her. Or she can break me. Whatever.
The new #Hellbreakers Adventure Path arrived today, and I’m struggling not to dive right in, ‘cause I’d really like to get in a game of it. Also, I’m not sure which of the two duelists in the second pic is the hero and which is the villain, but I do know the one on the left’s look is absolute goals.
