This gorge between 2 glacial eskers collects colder air as it sinks below warmer air. And it's protected from sun. This creates a cold area where the snow hasn't melted. Eskers are long narrow hills, with steep sides, of rocks and gravel dropped by melting glaciers.

Today I got a better look at Holy Hill. This pic is from the IAT, which travels 2.5 miles thru church property. That made my yo-yo hike 5 miles and took 3 hours on snow covered trail over some steep hills. And I saw 6 deer. :-)

When the sun gets down into the trees, its time to head back, or I'll be caught in the woods in the dark. Fine if I had my hammock and tarp along, but I don't. And it got down to about 15 F overnight. This was yesterday on the Kettlebowl Segment of the Ice Age Trail, WI.

During my 6 mile walk yesterday I got my first look at 2 newly created miles of the Ice Age Trail. It has eliminated some of the road walk between the Polk Kames and West Bend Segments. Many thanks to the Cedar Lakes Conservancy for access to their land.
