The 2009 #IranElection on Twitter was a practice run for what would happen during the Arab Spring, in terms of breaking through to the outside world with direct communication of breaking events, analysis, and mutual aid. I have no idea what that looks like now in our broken online environment.

Nach ersten Stichproben der Bevölkerung lag die Wahlbeteiligung in der Islamischen Republik nicht bei den Verbreiteten 41%, sondern viel mehr bei max 4,1% . Die IR hat die Statistik um den Faktor 10, teilweise sogar 11, verfälscht.

Laut @nishtmani_joan liegt die Wahlbeteiligung in den Städten der Provinzen mit kurdischer Bevölkerung (West-Aserbaidschan, Kurdestan, Kermanschah, Ilam, Hamadan, Lorestan) um 16:20 Ortszeit bei unter 5%.

Listening to it now, it's really interesting to me, because I was one of the people who used the #IranElection hashtag in 2011, one of the first political hashtags to raise awareness about something in a regime that didn't have a free press. That movement lost, sadly, when the leader was arrested.

This essay reminds me of a time on Twitter in 2011 during the #IranElection protests. I said I thought it was terrible that it's illegal to be atheist in Iran or even sell books about atheism. But someone replied that from the Basiji point of view, this is protecting the nation from God's wrath.
