Happy to have helped with this DFA statement (pdf) on the egregious NS provincial program reviews of Uni’s. This is pronounced overstep by the province, & completely incompetent at that. Our provincial and certain uni leaders seem hellbent on breaking #nspse. #KeepDalStrong @dalfaculty.bsky.social

Special thanks to DFA President Dave Westwood for his steady hand during the recent month-long lockout. Long days, little sleep, setbacks & ultimately big wins - Dave never wavered. Our union is stronger as a result of his steadfast leadership. Caricature (by www.JillQuinnBabcock.com) #keepdalstrong
Congrats to Julia M. Wright, DFA Member! She received the CAUT Dedicated Service Award in 2023. Last night, DFA held its first in-person social event in more than 2 years, and finally presented Julia with her award. Thanks, Julia, for your continued dedication to DFA and our members. #KeepDalStrong
Congrats to DFA Members Jason Haslam, Kiran Banerjee and Kassandra Luciuk for receiving the 2025 CAUT Dedicated Service Award! Their commitment, focus and energy during DFA's recent month-long lockout was outstanding. Awards presented at the DFA Solidarity Party held last night. #keepdalstrong
It's @caut.bsky.social Fair Employment Week. Becca Babcock, LTA @dalhousieu.bsky.social "I'd like to focus on my students, rather than worry about unemployment." Short-term contracts for long-term needs weaken the academic environment. #KeepDalStrong @ansut.bsky.social @cupe3912.bsky.social

Leslie Kenwell, Dental Hygiene LTA at dalhousieu.bsky.social - "My most recent 2yr term ended June 30. I have been granted a 1yr term extension - not a reappointment - with no promise of anything after that. My precariousness has increased." @ansut.bsky.social @cupe3912.bsky.social #KeepDalStrong
Message from Wanda M. Costen, Provost and Vice-President Academic at Dalhousie University, dated October 17, 2025, informing students, faculty, and staff about a potential CUPE Local 3912 strike. The notice explains that the strike could begin as early as October 21 if negotiations on October 20 are unsuccessful. It outlines possible impacts on classes and course delivery, emphasizes that most classes will continue, and directs students to their faculties for specific updates. The message expresses hope for a resolution and acknowledges the importance of CUPE members in university life.
Oh yes, you understand that correctly. The @Dalhousie.bsky.social administration has walked itself straight into another job action through its unfair treatment of its employees.
When are we going to collectively make a statement that the problem is the leaders, not the workers?

Dalhousie’s admin has lost the damn plot. Let’s be clear, while provincial funding needs to be increased to help our universities thrive, Boards still have the money to pay employees a fair wage and provide more job security. Dal added $80 million to its cash-in-hand last year alone. #KeepDalStrong

The fight for fair wages, compensation, and working conditions at major public institutions like @dalhousie.bsky.social IS NOT OVER!
The @dalfaculty.bsky.social will be right back to this in just 2 1/2 short years, but our colleagues in CUPE 3912 are in it right now!
Support them!

All out for @cupe3912.bsky.social this Friday! #KeepDalStrong @dalfaculty.bsky.social
Oh, you thought because I wasn't angry posting every day about the stupid @dalhousie.bsky.social lockout that I had calmed down about the whole thing and everything was ok?
Nope.
The semester is a dumpster fire 🔥🔥🔥
Students are rightfully pissed 🤬🤬🤬
and I'M 👏 FUCKING 👏 TIRED 👏

Screen capture of a portion of an Acadia press release that reads: The negotiating teams revised 39 articles— 74% of the collective agreement —and created seven Memorandums of Agreement (MOA). Negotiators met 21 days at the table from May 6 to August 8 this year, and settled amicably at the table on August 8. “The two teams did a tremendous amount of work in a relatively short period of time and reached an agreement without a need for outside intervention.” says Anthony Pash, AUFA Lead Negotiator. “We thank the Board’s team for their hard work and willingness to engage in productive debate, and we hope that this is the model for negotiations going forward.”
Reading this release (www2.acadiau.ca/about-acadia...) makes me even more angry at the process we just endured. Acadia demonstrated both sides can commit to not only maintaining relationships but strengthening them. For me, relationships feel fractured and repair will take time.

Honestly, saying nothing would have been better than that “people are urging me to say something” email to faculty. #KeepDalStrong

Just when you thought it was safe to check your Dal email…
I do feel badly that #DalLockout2025 upset our senior admin so. They should probably look into who ordered it so they can be told never to do something so destructive again, and to refund the students.
#KeepDalStrong
I made the mistake of checking my junk folder and learned that the #DalLockout2025 did a bunch of bad things, even to the president who ordered it.
I'll be using the e-mail in class as an example of how the passive voice is used to cloud responsibility.

I'm missing all the #KeepDalStrong posts, so I shall continue. Evolution Labs week 1 complete, and never have I had SUCH a positive environment, for ALL 6 LABS, ever. The #Solidarity and #Enthusiasm and #Supportive vibes shined, with all students, in each lab. 1/2

So our department is doubly burdened this term; coping with a fractured term and expelled from our offices, packing urgently for a move by Christmas. The Admin will take our spots, making vanity upgrades like real wood panels in the elevators, not new daycare spaces. #keepdalstrong?
As I said in Senate yesterday: saying course outcomes won’t be affected is a pipe dream. Of course they will.
But unlike lengthier disruptions in the past to 90%+ of courses (pandemics, massive storms), this one was a choice, made by Kim Brooks and the Board.
Refund the students. #KeepDalStrong
