Long Beach Latino Democratic Club Official Statement
The Long Beach Latino Democratic Club strongly condemns the bombings in Caracas and the arrest and indictment of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cillia Flores de Maduro, by the United States Military. Conducted without notification or approval from Congress, these actions violate the U.S. Constitution, breach international law undermine national sovereignty, and erode the democratic principles our nation is obligated to uphold.
There are legitimate, diplomatic, humanitarian and multilateral avenues to support democratic transition; this reckless intervention is not one of them. For more than 70 years, US military actions in Latin America have failed to produce freer societies or improved living conditions, instead fueling dictatorships, repression and loss of life. While Maduro was a tyrant, the absence of any plan beyond his extraction risks prolonged instability, internal conflict, and deep harm to U.S. credibility.
The Trump Administration has escalated armed aggression against Venezuela for weeks under the guise of combating drug trafficking, continuing attacks even after civilian casualties were confirmed, culminating in this past Saturday's unilateral takeover.
We stand in solidarity with the nations across the Global South - including Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Honduras and South Africa - that reaffirm sovereignty, peaceful dialogue, and non-intervention. Their stance reflects a global consensus that no country, and no president, is above the law.
The Long Beach Latino Democratic Club remains committed to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law at home and abroad.
We reject any action the prioritizes political agendas over international norms or the safety and self-determination of the Venezuelan people.
